BIO

I am Anika Evans. I was born in Corvallis, Oregon in the late 1970’s. My formative years were spent in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I am very much a product of the Open School philosophy that governed my grade school and high school experiences. Open schools support children’s interests, help them manage learning at their own pace, and encourage them to take education outside of traditional classroom walls. I graduated from Community High School in 1995 and started undergrad studies at the Maryland Institute, College of Art that year. I completed my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in photography at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia in 2000.

I have called many places home, including Ann Arbor, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and New Orleans. I have traveled much more of the United States and Canada. I moved to Canada in 2004, and lived in Calgary and Saskatoon before settling in Winnipeg in 2011. This is where I remain with my all-around wonderful and supportive husband and plan to into the future.

When I moved to Winnipeg I took a job as a picture framer, and made a living from that for over a decade. In early 2023 I left picture framing to take a position as a graphic designer. I have also worked in the photo finishing and retail pet food industries.

Outside of my work life I spend the majority of my time between home and “driving all over hell’s half-acre” to pursue hunting, fishing, archery, sporting clays, and the various volunteer jobs that support and strengthen these types of activities for myself and others.
