I have recently done some thinking about my photography, and came up with the term "integrative portraiture" to describe a lot of my work. Aside from a portrait as a stand-alone picture, I feel that a good portrait conveys a story or a message. Offering a sense of location, community, activity, and mood are all elements of my "integrative portrait".
